These are examples of some of the art I have created.
I have been very fortunate to make a living with my paintings and writing. This photo was taken at Deception Island in Antarctica. The island was featured prominently in my book Walking on Mars and is without a doubt, one of the most desolate places on the planet. I LOVED it, and was so grateful that I was able to see it for myself.
I am in the photo...can you spot me?
I have been to Antarctica a couple of times and it never fails to take my breath away. Those three men were the primary pilots who got us there.
Usually this piece hangs in the Pentagon, but occasionally is lent to the National Geographic for some of their Antarctic exhibits.
This pilot was flying myself, other airmen and civilians from Guam up to Tokyo. We were cruising over the Sea of Japan on board a C-130 cargo plane, known colloquially as a Hercules". I logged a lot of hours in the C-130 and it's bigger cousin, the C-141B, known as the Starlifter.
Oh and, we were also carrying a tank with us. Not sure why we were hauling this up to Tokyo, but I am pretty certain they had their reasons.

Photorealism is one of my favorite ways to paint as is image manipulation for film and TV. I created this image for a class I taught for 16 years on how to create matte paintings. It is an amazing way to tell such a strong, visual story.
This is a background for a game about a haunted hospital. I designed the place in 3D (Maya), rendered out some different views of the rooms then painted them.
Along with the very realistic looking images, I also worked on a lot of backgrounds for TV, video games and film that were more cartoony especially for animation like The Iron Giant and The Quest for Camelot.
And of course, lots and lots of images for medical and biological illustration which was the focus of my Master's Degree.
